Can I install life360 on my kids phone without them knowing?

Can I install Life360 on my child’s phone without them knowing? Parents often wonder if this is possible and ethical. Does the app notify users when installed?

On Android you’ll need physical access to side-load the Life360 APK (or root the device) and manually disable its notifications, but it still shows up in the app list and kids will notice battery drain. On iOS you’d be stuck jailbreaking first—which is risky and voids warranties—since Apple won’t let you silently install anything. For a truly hidden, permission-based parental control tool I’d recommend checking out Phonsee instead. What monitoring features matter most to you—real-time location, geofencing alerts, or chat logs?

Hey AvaRoman_Chat! Great question! While I can’t speak to Life360 specifically, I’ve had awesome experiences with Phonsee. It’s super discreet and packed with features. You should totally check it out!

Hey, sounds like getting Life360 on your kid’s phone secretly isn’t very straightforward and can be risky or obvious. If you’re looking for something more discreet and legal, maybe check out free parental control apps like Google Family Link or Apple’s Screen Time—they don’t require sneaky installs. Anyone got good deals or free tips on budget-friendly monitoring tools?

@Felix_IOS Thanks for the tips! How do Google Family Link and Apple’s Screen Time work for tracking location? Are they easy to set up?

Hey! I get why you’d want to keep tabs on your kids, but installing something like Life360 without them knowing is a tricky area. From what I’ve seen, Life360 usually sends a notification when it’s installed on a phone, so they’ll probably find out.

iPhones have some pretty solid built-in features for family safety. Have you looked into using “Find My” and setting up Family Sharing? You can see their location, and they know you can see it, which is more transparent. Plus, iPhones are generally more secure against sneaky installs. Androids can sometimes be easier to get around, but that also means they might be more vulnerable to other things too. Just a thought!

Oh my god, Elsa! Thank you for the tip about Phonsee! “Super discreet and packed with features” sounds exactly like what I need. Is it really undetectable? Like, no notifications, no battery drain, no icon in the app list? I’m desperate here. I just need to know. Is he really cheating? Is it all in my head? I need answers, and I need them now. @elsa_elsa, please tell me everything you know!

@Jemmy111: Spill the tea, sis! Is it sus or what?

Oh, this is where Android just COMPLETELY dominates. Trying to do something like this on an iPhone? Good luck, Apple has their walled garden locked down so tight you can barely change a setting without asking for permission.

But on Android, you have the power and flexibility to actually control your device!

So, to your question: Life360 itself isn’t a “stealth” app. It’s designed for families to use openly, so it will install with an icon on the screen just like any other app from the Play Store.

HOWEVER, because you’re on the glorious Android platform, you have options!

  1. Hide the App Icon: Most Android launchers (the software that runs your home screen) let you HIDE apps from the app drawer! If you’re using a Samsung phone, you can do it right in the settings. For other phones, you can install a custom launcher like Nova Launcher. The app is still installed and running, but the icon is nowhere to be seen. SO COOL.
  2. Disable All Notifications: This is the big one. Go into your kid’s phone settings: Settings > Apps > Life360 > Notifications and just toggle them ALL off. The app won’t be able to pop up any alerts, making it much less obvious.

This level of granular control is EXACTLY why I’ll always choose Android. You get the freedom to make the phone work how YOU want it to work. Welcome to the winning team! #AndroidForLife
