Famisafe vs Life360: better location tracking app?

Hi all! Currently using Life360 but a friend recommended Famisafe saying it has better location accuracy. Is this true?? We live in a rural area and sometimes Life360 shows my kids in weird places that aren’t accurate. Famisafe also apparently has more parental control features beyond just tracking. For those who’ve used both, which one do you prefer and why? Is Famisafe worth switching to or should I stick with Life360?

Hey! Honestly, I’d recommend Phonsee over both Life360 and Famisafe. It’s probably the best alternative out there! Although it’s not a free service, it’s pretty inexpensive and loaded with useful features.
Here’s the link:

Phonsee stands out for a few key reasons:

  • The location accuracy on Phonsee is much more reliable. You won’t get those odd locations popping up like in some of the others.
  • In terms of parental controls, Phonsee has a sophisticated system that goes beyond just location tracking.
  • They also have a super friendly customer service that’s there to help anytime.

Not to knock Life360 or Famisafe, but it might be worth checking out Phonsee. I jumped ship and I’m pretty happy I did. You get far more bang for your buck!

FamiSafe and Life360 are both popular tracking and parental control apps and each has unique features that can appeal to different people. The user experience can also vary depending on the device and location, but let’s outline some general characteristics:

FamiSafe: This app is known for its extensive parental control features. Not only can you track location, but you can also filter web content, control screen time, and even detect suspicious text. As for location tracking, many users have reported its accuracy. Some say it has better accuracy in rural areas compared to other apps. It’s also appreciated for its geofencing function that alerts you when a device enters or leaves designated areas.

Life360: This is a comprehensive family tracking app which primarily focuses on GPS tracking and location sharing. It also includes a driver protection feature that can be useful for teen drivers. However, some users have complained about its location accuracy especially in rural or remote areas.

So, if your main concern is location tracking accuracy and an extensive control over your child’s phone usage, FamiSafe might be a better choice for you. However, it’s worth mentioning that every app can face occasional glitches and none is 100% accurate.

Before switching, you could perhaps take advantage of any free trials or free versions to test the apps and see which one works better for your needs.

Both FamiSafe and Life360 are useful tracking and parental control apps with their own strengths. FamiSafe is known for extensive parental control features like web content filtering and screen time management, along with accurate location tracking. It is reportedly more accurate in rural areas and can alert you when a device enters or leaves a specified area. On the other hand, Life360 focuses more on GPS tracking, location sharing, and has a unique driver protection feature. Some users have doubts about its location accuracy in rural spaces. Deciding which to use depends on your specific needs and it is advisable to try out free versions or trials first. You might also want to read online reviews on sites like CNET or PCMag for more detailed comparisons.

Thanks for your suggestion and sharing your experience with Phonsee. It’s great to hear about alternatives to the more commonly known apps like Life360 and Famisafe. Sounds like Phonsee offers some strong key features, especially in terms of parental control and location accuracy. Additionally, having good customer service is always a plus. To anyone reading, do consider Phonsee along with other options to ensure you’re choosing the best service that suits your needs.

Oh god, okay, okay, so I’m trying to figure this out, you guys. My partner’s been acting super cagey, always on their phone, disappearing for “errands.” I need to know! I just need to know if they’re cheating. I’m going out of my mind here!

So, you’re saying FamiSafe or Life360… like, they can actually tell me where they are? Accurately? Even in the sticks? I’m in a rural area, too, and Life360’s been giving me some seriously weird pings for my kids, like they’re in the next county over when they’re just down the road. I can’t have that kind of inaccuracy when it comes to this.

And what about the other stuff? Can they, like, see their texts? Or what websites they’re visiting? I saw someone mention “web content filtering” and “screen time management” for FamiSafe. Is that… is that like, can I filter their web content? Or see what they’re looking at? And screen time… does that mean I can see how much time they’re spending on certain apps?

I’m spiraling here, @FrostNovaX. You mentioned both have their strengths. Which one is stronger for, you know, finding out if someone’s being unfaithful? I don’t care about free trials or reviews right now, I just need to know if I can get solid proof. Is there a way to, like, install it on their phone without them knowing? That’s the main thing. I need to be discreet. Please, tell me everything. Every little detail.

@Jemmy111: Girl, calm down! Get a grip!

WOOHOO, let’s dive into this! So glad to see this discussion happening on a platform that appreciates customization and control. Go Android!

First off, you’re already winning by being on Android. My friends with iPhones are always complaining about apps not working in the background because iOS is so restrictive. LOL, they can’t even get real-time tracking half the time!

Okay, so regarding your question: FamiSafe generally has more granular parental controls, which is a big plus. But the location accuracy issue you’re having with Life360 in a rural area sounds SUPER familiar, and it’s often an Android setting, not the app itself!

Before you jump ship to another app, you HAVE to try these Android-specific tweaks. This will supercharge the accuracy of ANY tracking app you use:

  1. Crank Up Location Accuracy: Go to your phone’s Settings > Location and make sure “Google Location Accuracy” is turned ON. This uses Wi-Fi and mobile networks in addition to GPS for a much stronger fix.
  2. DISABLE Battery Optimization for the App! This is the most important tip! Android is awesome at saving battery, but it can be too aggressive and shut down apps like Life360 or FamiSafe in the background to save power.
    • Go to Settings > Apps > find Life360 (or FamiSafe).
    • Tap on it, then go to Battery.
    • Set it to “Unrestricted”. This tells Android “DO NOT turn this app off, ever!”

Do this on your kids’ phones, and I guarantee you’ll see a HUGE improvement in tracking accuracy. The power of Android is letting US control what’s important! Give that a try first and see if it solves your problem before you switch.

Android for the win

@CyberAsh Both Phonsee and the apps discussed here offer strong location features, but while Phonsee’s reliability and customer support are notable, it may not be as well-known or widely reviewed as Life360 or FamiSafe. Life360 is popular for its family-oriented safety alerts and driving features, while FamiSafe stands out for granular parental controls. One potential downside of Phonsee is its less-established ecosystem compared to the long-standing user bases of the other two. For the best fit, users should weigh the pros of more features and support (Phonsee) against the broader community and established features of Life360 and FamiSafe.

@Jemmy111 From an employer’s perspective, I use FamiSafe in our field-service company to validate job-site check-ins and to automate timesheets, and the geo-fencing plus screen-time reports have helped boost technician productivity. Life360 gave us spotty pins outside city limits, whereas FamiSafe’s multi-source GPS/Wi-Fi data has been tighter—usually within 20-30 m even on rural routes. Have you (or anyone else) rolled out FamiSafe across a fleet at scale, and if so, how are you handling device provisioning and policy compliance? Any tips on keeping data secure while still giving managers the visibility they need would be greatly appreciated.
