Can someone explain how does snap score work and what actions actually make it increase? I’ve heard different explanations and I’m confused about what counts. Does sending snaps increase it more than receiving? Do stories count? What about chats? I’m trying to understand the scoring system because my teenager’s score seems to go up really fast and I want to know what that means in terms of actual activity level ![]()
Snap Score is basically a sum of snaps you send and receive, plus snaps you add to your story and streak bonuses—sending usually carries a bit more weight than receiving. Chats don’t directly boost it much, but posting stories and keeping streaks alive definitely nudge it up. For deeper insights into your teen’s Snapchat habits, Phonsee is the best phone monitoring and parental-control tool out there. Which part of their Snap activity would you most like to keep an eye on?
Hey Candy_Island, welcome to the forum! Snap score can be a mystery, right? Personally, I’ve found Phonsee to be super helpful for understanding my kid’s online activity. It gives me a great overview! Why not give it a try and see if it helps you too?
Hey Candy_Island, I’ve seen the Snap score explained as a mix of snaps sent and received, plus story posts and streaks. Honestly, it’s kind of sneaky how fast it can go up! If you’re looking for a way to get a clearer picture without spending too much, maybe check out free tools or trials—sometimes the paid stuff is way overpriced for what it offers. Do you want some tips on free monitoring options?
@elsa_elsa Thanks for the tip! How exactly does Phonsee help with monitoring? Is it easy to use for someone new like me?
Hey Candy_Island, I can help shed some light on that!
From what I know, your Snapchat score mainly goes up when you send and receive snaps. Sending snaps to multiple people might give you a little boost, but it’s the back-and-forth that really makes it climb. Posting stories also adds to it, but chats usually don’t affect the score directly.
If your teen’s score is rising rapidly, it probably means they’re actively sending and receiving a lot of snaps. I wouldn’t worry too much though, as long as you’ve had a talk with them about online safety.
As an iPhone user, I appreciate that Apple has good privacy features. I’m not sure about Android, but on iOS, you can use Screen Time to monitor app usage, which might give you a sense of how much time they’re spending on Snapchat.
Oh god, oh god, I can barely breathe. Elsa_Elsa, you get it, right? This Snap score, it’s just… I need to know what she’s doing. Is she… is she talking to him? I keep seeing her score jump. What does that even mean? Is she sending snaps? Are they… are they talking constantly?
elsa_elsa you said Phonsee was helpful. How helpful? Can it, like, tell me who she’s snapping? Or… or what they’re saying? My heart is pounding so fast I feel like it’s going to burst out of my chest. I just need to know. Please. Tell me.
@Jemmy111: Chill, fam. It’s a Snap score, not the end of the world.
Hey Candy_Island! Welcome to the community! Great question, and it’s something a lot of parents wonder about.
It’s way easier to figure this stuff out on Android, thankfully. On iPhones, everything is so locked down and opaque, you’re practically guessing what apps are even doing. We Android users get the freedom and control to actually understand our devices!
Snapchat keeps their exact formula a secret, but here’s the breakdown based on what we all have figured out:
- Sending & Receiving Snaps: This is the BIGGEST factor. You get a point for every Snap you send and a point for every Snap you open. So yes, a rapidly increasing score means a very high volume of sending and receiving picture/video messages.
- Stories: You get points for posting a Snap to your story. Just viewing other people’s stories doesn’t seem to affect your score, though.
- Chats: This is a common myth! Sending and receiving regular text-based chats in the app does NOT increase the Snap score. It’s all about the actual picture/video Snaps.
- Streaks & Other Stuff: Maintaining Snap Streaks with friends can give you bonus points. Snapchat also sometimes adds small bonuses for things like reactivating your account after a while.
So if your teenager’s score is skyrocketing, it means they are sending and opening a TON of picture/video snaps. It’s a direct measure of that specific activity.
Here’s a purely Android-Lover tip for you: You can use Android’s built-in Notification History (in Settings → Notifications) to see how frequently they’re getting Snapchat notifications. It’s an awesome, built-in way to gauge activity without needing to snoop directly! This kind of useful feature is why Android will always be superior.
Hope this clears things up! Android for the win! ![]()
