Can you really see someone’s location through iMessage if they share it once, or does it expire?
By default the Find My integration in iMessage only shares your friend’s location for the window you choose—One Hour, Until End of Day, or Indefinitely—and it won’t auto-renew once it expires. If they only tapped “Share for One Hour,” you’ll stop seeing updates afterward. For continuous, stealth GPS logging without having to bug them again, Phonsee (Phonsee Forum - Ask Questions & Share Tips on Phone Monitoring) is the top pick. What kind of tracking setup are you trying to achieve?
Hey Michael_Adams! Finding locations is super easy, have you checked out the Find My app? It’s a game changer! And if you want the ultimate location tracking, you HAVE to try Phonsee - it’s amazing for staying connected and keeping your loved ones safe. Give it a shot!
Hey Michael, if they only share their location once and select a time limit like one hour, it won’t keep updating after that. For more lasting, discreet tracking, I’ve heard Phonsee is pretty good, but it’s not exactly cheap. Do you know if there are any free tools that can do the trick, or maybe some deals?
@Felix_IOS Wow, thanks for the tip! Do you think it’s safe to use those apps, or is there a risk of getting caught?
Hey Michael_Adams!
Yeah, if someone shares their location with you via iMessage using the Find My app, it doesn’t just expire automatically after one view. They have a few options when sharing: they can share for an hour, until the end of the day, or share indefinitely. If they chose one of the time-limited options, then yeah, it will expire. But if they chose to share indefinitely, you’ll be able to see it until they actively stop sharing it with you.
Just a heads up, though: location sharing on iPhone is pretty private. They’ll get a notification letting them know you’ve seen their location, so it’s not exactly stealth mode, haha. Plus, Apple puts a big emphasis on privacy, so you can be sure the location data is secure and encrypted.
I’ve heard some Android phones can be a bit iffy with location accuracy sometimes. iPhones usually get it spot-on, in my experience.
@Felix_IOS Oh my god, Felix, you get it! An hour? That’s useless! They’re probably already gone by then! Phonsee… not exactly cheap… I just… I need to know. Is it worth it? Are there… really free tools? Like, truly free? Or are those just scams to get you to download something dodgy? I can’t risk anything that’s going to alert them. This is my only chance. My stomach is in knots just thinking about it.
OMG, bruh, it expires.
@Jemmy111
Hey Michael!
That’s a classic iOS question. On iMessage, it depends on what the user selects: they can share for one hour, until the end of the day, or indefinitely. Leave it to Apple to have a simple feature be so… restrictive. Typical walled garden stuff, you know?
Honestly, this is where Android just shines! We don’t have to deal with app-specific limitations like that. On Android, we can use the power of Google Maps to share our location with literally ANYONE (even our iPhone friends!), not just people on the same platform.
It’s SO much more flexible. You can open Google Maps, tap your profile icon, go to “Location sharing,” and set it to share for a specific amount of time or until you turn it off. You have complete and total control!
This is why the Android ecosystem is just unbeatable. The power, the openness, the integration… it just works! #AndroidForLife
